Former champions Patna Pirates recorded a pulsating win in match 88 of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) as they took one step closer towards the top spot. A Super 10 from Sachin saw the three-time champions come from behind and win by 37-35 to clinch the spoils that had huge ramifications on the PKL table. In the first game of the day, Puneri Paltans beat U Mumba 36-34 in a neck-to-neck affair. With a win in the Maharashtra derby, Paltans advanced to seventh in the PKL standings.

Patna keep hopes alive for top spot in PKL

The former champions Patna started the match on a high as they picked up 13 raid points in the first half. They also managed to inflict an all out on Yoddhas in that period as the Pirates led by 20-15 at the break. Monu Goyat was the missing piece in the puzzle for the Pirates, as he was an unused substitute in the match.

The second half saw Yoddhas make a comeback as they even led 28-26 at one point, thanks to the exploits of Surender Gill (10) and Shrikant Jadhav (9). Gill reached a milestone as he registered his 200th raid point of his PKL career. However, the Pirates made sure they pulled out all the tools from the arsenal and pinched important points towards the end. Mohammadreza Chiyaneh (5) and Prashant Kumar (5) showed their defensive work to help Sachin and other raiders to clinch a last-ditch win as they won by 37-35.

Puneri Paltans win local spoils

The second encounter didn't disappoint either as Puneri Paltans came from behind to beat U Mumba in the Maharashtra derby. Having trailed by 18-19 at the break, Puneri Paltan produced a complete team performance to crawl to the win. Raid points from Aslam Inamdar (8) and Mohit Goyat (9) made sure the Paltan had enough gas in the tank in the end to clinch the contest.

U Mumba did have the services of V Ajith (10) and Abhishek Singh (8) but lost concentration at the crucial time to surrender the match, which they had in control and eventually lost 34-36. Ajith's Super 10, in the end, went in vain while Paltan's defender Abhinesh Nadrajan (6) stole the show in the dying moments of the match.
