Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10 extended his congratulations to wrestler Aman Sehrawat for clinching the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. Praising the 21-year-old athlete, Modi highlighted his life as an inspiration to others. 

PM Modi Lauds Aman Sehrawat after bronze glory

During a phone call, the Prime Minister acknowledged Sehrawat as the youngest Indian medallist at the Olympics and expressed confidence that his achievement would continue to bring pride to the nation for years to come.

"Your life is inspirational for the people of the country," the prime minister said.

Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the challenges faced by Aman Sehrawat, who lost his parents at a young age. He commended the wrestler's dedication to the sport. In response, Sehrawat expressed gratitude for the support and facilities provided by the government and expressed his determination to win the gold medal at the next Olympics.

"Olympics 2028 mein gold le aaunga (I will win gold medal in Olympics 2028)," Aman promised PM Modi.

Aman Sehrawat Creates History

Aman Sehrawat etched his name in Indian Olympic history by securing the bronze medal in the 57kg freestyle category. At just 21 years old, he became the youngest Indian to win an Olympic medal, less than a month after his birthday. His impressive victory lifted the spirits of the Indian wrestling team, which had been marred by controversy. Sehrawat's dominance was evident in the third-place contest, where he defeated Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz with a convincing 13-5 score. Prior to Sehrawat's achievement, P V Sindhu held the record for India's youngest Olympic medalist, having won silver at the 2016 Games at the age of 21 years, one month, and 14 days.

Aman Sehrawat's remarkable achievement came just weeks after celebrating his 21st birthday. His bronze medal contributed to India's growing medal tally, bringing the total to six and closing the gap on the seven medals won at the Tokyo Games. The country has secured one silver and five bronze medals thus far. As the sole Indian male wrestler to qualify for the Paris Games, Sehrawat delivered a standout performance. He clinched the bronze medal with a decisive 13-5 victory in the play-off match.
