Paris Olympics 2024, Day 14 round-up: Aman Sehrawat claims record-breaking bronze medal, relay teams crash out

21-year-old wrestler Aman Sehrawat added to India's tally of medals at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a bronze medal on Day 14 of the Games.

On Day 14 of the Paris Olympics 2024, another bronze medal was added to India's medal tally. Sehrawat won the bronze medal in the men's 57kg freestyle event after suffering a disheartening loss to eventual champion Rei Higuchi. With one silver and five bronze medal, India are now ranked 69th on the medal tally. 
 

Golf

Aditi Ashok was placed 40th in the rankings after starting the day at 14th. Her final score was +6 after finishing the eighteen holes. On the other hand, Diksha Sagar slipped to 42nd place from 14th after finishing at +7.
 

4x400m relay

India men's 4x400m relay team finished 10th in their heat race and finished 10th overall. They failed to make it to the final round at the Paris Olympics. Muhamad Anas Yahiya, Muhammed Ajmal, Amoj Jacob and Rajesh Ramesh's timing was 3:00.58.
 

In the women's 4x400m relay team of Vithya Ramraj, MR Poovamma, Jyothika Sri Dandi, Subha Venkatesan after finishing 15th overall with timing of 3:32.51.
 

Wrestling

After Vinesh Phogat’s unfortunate disqualification for being 100 grams overweight at the weigh-in, Aman Sehrawat won his bronze medal round by beating Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz 13-5. The win came after the 21-year-old's defeat to Japan's Rei Higuchi on the basis of technical superiority. Higuchi went on to win the gold medal.

Sehrawat became the youngest Indian to win an Olympic medal. He broke the record for held by PV Sindhu who bagged a silver medal in the Rio Olympics 2024. He also helped Indian wrestlers continue the tradition of at least one medal in Olympics since Beijing Games in 2008.

After the semifinal bout, Sehrawat was 4.6 kg overweight. He had a one-and-a-half hour mat sesssion followed by one-hour hot bath. At 12:30 AM, Aman hit the gym and ran on the treadmill for one hour followed by a 30minute break. Then he had five sessions of five-minute sauna bath. Still, he was 900 grams overweight. He started with light jogging after a message session and then went for five 15-minute running sessions. Finally, at 4:30 AM, he was 100 grams below the weight category and managed to avoid an unfortunate disqualification like Vinesh Phogat.
