After CWG silver, Neeraj Chopra gears up for Lausanne Diamond League challenge

In a series of interesting updates, it has been reported that double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra is all set to take part in the Lausanne Diamond League on August 21. The star Indian athlete will face a star studded lineup featuring several top European athletes, much like the competition at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

Tough competition for Neeraj at Lausanne Diamond League

The star-studded lineup includes Pakistan's Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem, Trinidad and Tobago's reigning world champions Keshorn Walcott Sri Lanka's Commonwealth Games champion and season leader Rumesh Pathirage, and veterans like Anderson Peters and Thomas Rohler, both former world and Olympic champions.

The competition also includes Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Jakub Vadlejch, Germany's Julian Weber and USA's Curtis Thompson, who won bronze at the latest World Championship and is currently ranked World No.2 this season.

Notably, Neeraj faced Arshad, Pathirage, Peters and Walcott at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2026, where Pathirage clinched the gold with a sensational throw of 89.75m. The Sri Lankan has enjoyed a sensational form this season, topping the world standings and recording five of the best throws of the year.

Pathirage's throw of 92.67m at the Rome Diamond League marks him the only athlete to breach the 90m mark this season.

Big task for Neeraj Chopra

Neeraj, who won the silver medal at the Games, recorded a season-best throw of 85.83 to finish second. The event marked only his second major event since coming back from injury after finishing eighth at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo. It will be interesting to see if he can make a good impression at the Lausanne Diamond League.
