The triumph delivered India its fourth boxing gold—and fifth total gold medal—of the Games, adding to a championship haul that includes titles for Preeti, Sakshi, and Jaismine Lamboria, as well as a silver medal for Jadumani Singh.

The final tested Priya’s resilience early on. After dropping the first round 2-3 due to defensive defensive lapses, the Indian pugilist responded brilliantly, dominating the remaining two frames to secure a 4-1 split decision victory.

It was her second consecutive comeback win, following a hard-fought semi-final against England’s Lucy Kings-Wheatley. Having traded 4-1 rounds with the English boxer through the first six minutes, Priya produced a decisive third-round surge to seal a unanimous result and advance to the gold medal bout.

India's women boxers' gold rush in Glasgow continues

Historically, India’s women boxers had captured a total of just three gold medals across all previous Commonwealth Games combined. The 2026 edition in Glasgow has completely rewritten that narrative, with the squad already blowing past that lifetime total by securing four gold medals in the women’s division alone.

India’s golden run in the ring was opened by Preeti Pawar, who dismantled Scarlett Delgado of Canada 5-0 in the women’s 54kg final. World champion Jaismine Lamboria quickly doubled the tally, mirroring that 5-0 unanimous scoreline against Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh to capture gold in her division.

Adding to the day's rich haul, Sakshi Chaudhary delivered a third 5-0 victory over England’s Ruby White in the women’s 51kg final to complete a hat-trick of gold medals for the Indian women.

However, India's sweep was denied in the men's final, where Jadumani Singh fell 0-5 to Australia’s Jye Dixon in a toughly contested bout.
