CWG 2026: Sachin Siwach, Ankush Panghal pocket golds, Narender Berwal bags silver for India in boxing

India wrapped up an extraordinary boxing run at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on a golden note, finishing with a staggering ten podium finishes, seven golds and three silvers. The final day’s action saw Sachin Siwach outpoint Namibia's T.M. Ndevelo in a razor-thin 3-2 split verdict to claim the 60kg gold, while Ankush Panghal put on a masterclass in the 80kg final, dominating 2025 World Boxing Cup champion D. Shittu of England to earn another yellow metal with a 4-1 victory.

Later, Narender Berwal capped off India's campaign with a silver medal in the +90kg category, following a 0-5 unanimous decision loss to England’s Damar Thomas in the summit clash. Narender's silver came after a strong showing that saw Indian boxers reach an impressive 10 finals within a single day of competition.

On the other hand, Panghal delivered a resilient performance to secure gold in the men’s 80kg category. He recovered strongly after a difficult opening round, where he was knocked down, to dominate the later stages with aggressive combinations and sharp counter-attacks. The win marked India’s seventh boxing gold of the Games, contributing to the country’s record-breaking campaign in the sport.

Indian boxers have excelled at Glasgow 2026, topping the boxing medal tally with seven golds and three silvers, the highest gold haul by any nation at a single edition of the Commonwealth Games. Panghal’s victory adds to the successes of fellow medallists, including Siwach and several women’s category winners. The 22-year-old from Haryana maintained an unbeaten run through the tournament, showcasing composure and skill against strong international opposition, including the home favourite in the final.

Siwach delivered a thrilling comeback victory to win gold in the men's 60kg category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Saturday, adding to India's impressive boxing haul in Glasgow. Facing Namibia's Tryagain Morning Ndevelo in the final at the SEC Centre, Siwach trailed after the opening rounds but mounted a superb fightback. In the decisive third round, the 26-year-old Haryana boxer landed a powerful punch that forced a standing count on his opponent just before the final bell. Judges awarded him a narrow 3-2 split decision victory. 

This latest success continues India's strong performance in combat sports at the multi-nation event, boosting national pride as the Games progress. Among the standout performers were gold medallists Sachin S., Preeti P., Jaismine L., Sakshi C., Priya G., Arundhati C., and Ankush P., while silver medals also went to Lovlina B. and Jadumani S.
