Soman Rana and Shubham Juyal won India gold and silver medals in men's F57 shot put

With this India's para medal tally reached seven

Indian field athletes extended their brilliant run in Glasgow as Soman Rana and Shubham Juyal powered to a stunning 1-2 finish in the men's F57 shot put on August 1. The double-medal haul marked the nation's third 1-2 podium sweep in para athletics at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, following a similar dominant display in the women's F57 shot put earlier in the week.

Rana, a decorated world championship medalist, set the standard right from the outset, opening with a strong 13.38m throw before unleashing his winning effort of 13.40m on his second attempt. Even though none of his subsequent four throws surpassed that distance, his early marker stood untouched, sealing India’s third gold medal of the Games in para athletics.

Joining his teammate on the podium, Shubham Juyal delivered a remarkably steady sequence to capture the silver medal. Opening with a 13.08m effort, he gradually raised the bar with a 13.27m launch on his third turn. After recording throws of 13.16m and 12.88m, Juyal saved his best for last, unleashing a distance-topping 13.28m on his sixth and final attempt to seal the 1-2 finish for India.

This double-podium triumph served as a fitting finale to a historic para sports showing in Glasgow, where Indian athletes amassed an unprecedented seven medals (three gold, two silver, and two bronze). A remarkable six of those medals came from the track and field contingent alone, snapping a two-decade medal drought in CWG para athletics in resounding style. Driven by three separate gold-silver sweeps across the men's and women's F57 shot put and the men's 100m T47, alongside a Games record and an Asian record, the campaign showcased India’s rapid emergence as a force in global para sports.
