India's para athletes Dilip Mahadu Gavit and Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath scripted history in Glasgow with one-two finish in the men's 100m T47 final. Gavit won gold whereas Basil bagged silver at the event.

Gavit broke the Games record with his season-best time of 10.71 seconds. Basil was slightly behind with his season-best of 10.83 seconds to finish second. The third place on the podium was grabbed by England's Kevin Santos. His season-best of 10.85 seconds earned him a bronze medal.

Gavit became India's third gold medal winner at the event. Earlier, legendary weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the gold in women's 48kg category. On July 28, 40-year-old Sharmila Dhankar won the gold in women's shot put F57 para athletics category.

Gavit gifts medal to coach after 400m to 100m shift
Gavit dedicated the gold medal to his coach Vaijanath Kale on Guru Purnima. He credited him for identifying his talent from a small village, Toran Dongari in Nashik, Maharashtra. He vows to do better the next time he takes the field.
“I come from a small village, Toran Dongari (Nashik). Initially, I was doing farm work in the village. Then, my sir saw me running and asked me to come to Nashik for training. He said he would handle everything, including the expenses. Today is Guru Purnima, so this medal is a gift for my Guru," Gavit said as quoted by ANI.
Gavit's coach, Kale revealed that his main event is 400-metre sprint which is not a part of this edition of CWG. It led to him switching to the 100m event, eventually winning a historic gold.
Basil’s emotional tribute to family
On the other hand, Basil comes from Veliyancode in Kerala's Malappuram district. He dedicated the medal to his family for the hardships they have been through.
"It is my first international medal. I am so happy. My family has my father, mother and two brothers and me. They are very supportive. They also suffered a lot every day because of me. Both of my brothers are also disabled. It is difficult for our family. It (medal) is dedicated to my family and my coach," he told ANI after the win.
Where are India in CWG 2026 medals tally?
India are placed eighth in CWG standings with three gold, nine silver and three bronze medals. Australia are on the top with 103 medals, including 47 gold, 21 silver and 35 bronze.
Note: The T47 category is for athletes with movement affected from low to moderate degree in the absence of one of the limbs.
