Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu proved her prowess again and stormed into the final of Madrid Spain Masters after defeating Singapore's Yeo Jia Min on April 1 (Saturday).

India's star shuttler routed Yeo Jia Min in straight games with a scoreline of 24-22, 22-20 in 48 minutes to make her first final of 2023. Sindhu will face Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in the final who defeated Carolina Marin 10-21, 21-15, 21-10 in another semifinal clash.

PV Sindhu, ranked 11th in the badminton rankings, started slowly as her opponent quickly raced to a 13-8 lead in the first game. However, the Indian badminton player fought back to reduce the deficit to 15-17.

Yeo Jia Min made it 20-17 but could not make it count as PV Sindhu saved three game points before taking the all-important lead.

In the second game, PV Sindhu carried the momentum forward and took a slender lead only to see Yeo Jia Min fight back and level the score at 17-17.

Thereafter, PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, stepped up her game once again to seal the match in 48 minutes.

With this win, PV Sindhu leads 4-0 in the head-to-head record against Yeo Jia Min. They met at the Commonwealth Games last year where PV Sindhu won in straight games. The former world champion is yet to drop a game against the Singaporean.

Earlier, Indian badminton star PV Sindhu made the women’s singles semi-finals at the Spain Masters 2023 BWF Super 300 badminton tournament after overpowering Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt 21-14, 21-17 in the quarters on Friday.
