Strangle Open: Debojit Dasgupta, Manini Pilania lead the charge in submission grappling event to win Gold

Debojit Dasgupta and Manini Pilania secured the Golds in the professional adult men's and women's categories respectively in the Strangle Nationals event on Saturday, April 29. The event saw more than 130 athletes from across the country participating, with the Pro Division winner awarded a trip to Singapore to represent India at the ADCC Asia Trials. 

The victory was even sweeter as this is India's first representation in the the world’s biggest submission grappling tournament.

The event had multiple categories, ranging from kids levels of 10-13 years to the professional stage in the men's event. Aarna Soni won Gold in the youngest stage, while Yash Mehta was the winner of the adolescents 14-17 years event. In the Amateur Men's 55 kg event, Surendra Kumar secured the Gold, while Dora Reddy was the winner in the -66 kg category. 

The -77 kg winner was none other than Dinesh Singh. The final men's category was the Amateur Men's category (absolute), whose Gold winner was Kunal Yadav.

In the Adult women's category, Manini Pilania won gold, while Proma Chatterjee and Divya Bharadwaj secured the Silver and Bronze medals respectively.

We want to make sure that we provide the best platform to these amateur athletes to showcase their talents and hone their skills. As mixed martial arts is making waves around the world, it is our vision to ensure our home-grown athletes get the right platform and encouragement to represent themselves and the country in due time,” said Rajiv Khati, founder of Strangle and Rebel MMA Academy under which Strangle is a brand.

All winners of their respective divisions were given cash prizes for the event which took place at the Made Easy School in Bandwari, Gurgaon.
