NBA legend and billionaire athlete Michael Jordan may have dominated the basketball world, but a strict dress code at an elite Miami golf club proved to be an unexpected hurdle. The six-time NBA champion, regarded as one of the greatest athletes of all time, was reportedly permanently banned from the prestigious La Gorce Country Club in 2012 after violating its long-standing attire policy.

Jordan, whose net worth is estimated at $3.5 billion by Forbes, has explored various sporting passions post-retirement, from NASCAR racing to deep-sea fishing. However, it was his deep love for golf that put him in an awkward situation.

 Cargo Shorts Controversy

According to the L.A. Times, Jordan arrived at La Gorce for a round of golf dressed in cargo shorts, seemingly unaware that the club enforced a strict ban on the attire.

The basketball icon managed to complete 11 holes before club staff approached him, informing him of the dress code violation and requesting him to return to the clubhouse to change.

However, Jordan declined to disrupt his game, leading to an immediate and permanent ban from the club.

 Jordan’s Representatives Defend Him

Following the incident, Jordan’s representatives argued that the Hall of Famer had played at La Gorce multiple times in the past while wearing cargo shorts without any prior complaints.

"Michael Jordan did wear cargo pants. He had been there many times before and had worn cargo pants previously, and had never been made aware that he was violating any dress code," his representative stated.

"This time, he was made aware of the violation on the 12th hole, and at that point, he did refuse to interrupt his game and return to the clubhouse and change. We were not aware that he is not allowed to return to La Gorce. I guess it's their loss – as MJ is a great golfer and a great guest."

 A Passion That Continues

Despite this controversy, Jordan remains deeply involved in golf, frequently seen at some of the most exclusive courses worldwide. He even built his own golf club, Grove XXIII, in Florida, ensuring he plays by his own rules.
