In a major development, India's biggest wrestlers are back on dharna at Jantar Mantar, Sports Tak has learned. Some of the female wrestlers have filed a police complaint against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and disgraced chief Brij Bhushan Sharan at the Connaught Place Police Station. FIR, though, is still not registered.
The committee that was appointed by the sports ministry to look into the allegations against Brij Bhushan and the Federation has submitted its recommendations. Wrestlers will resume their protest today (April 23) after a press conference at 4 pm.
This news comes three months after the first protests were held at the Jantar Mantar on January 18. During that time, all the women wrestlers accused the former president of many things including sexual and mental harassment. They demanded the dissolution of the Indian Wrestling Federation.
The wrestlers accused Brij Bhushan and several other coaches of sexually abusing the players. In reply to this, Brij Bhushan said that if all these allegations proved to be true, then I am ready to be hanged.
A long meeting was also held between the Sports Ministry and the wrestlers to end the strike. After which Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that a committee of four members would investigate all the matters.
Bhushan to not stand for Prez elections:
Recently, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has confirmed that he will not contest for the president's post in the WFI elections on May 7 but hinted that he might look for a new role within the federation.
He has already served three four-year terms as president in a row. According to the Sports Code, after completing 12 years as WFI chief, he is ineligible to contest for the top position.
