Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic has officially pulled out of Serbia's Davis Cup squad, marking another unfortunate setback in his 2025 season. The withdrawal follows his abrupt exit from the Australian Open, where he sustained a left hamstring tear during his semifinal clash against Alexander Zverev. The 24-time Grand Slam winner was forced to retire after losing the first set, leading to widespread speculation and criticism. In response, Djokovic shared an MRI scan of his injured hamstring to silence the doubters. Now, in another major development, Nole has opted out of representing his country in the Davis Cup.

Novak Djokovic’s injury woes continue amid Davis Cup absence

Djokovic was expected to lead the Serbian team in the Davis Cup Qualifiers against Denmark from January 31 to February 2. However, his injury has forced him to step aside, leaving Serbia without its biggest weapon as they prepare to take on Denmark's top-ranked player, Holger Rune.

Addressing his recent struggles, Novak Djokovic acknowledged the increasing toll injuries have taken on him in recent years.

"It's not like I'm worrying about approaching every Grand Slam now whether I'm going to get injured or not, but statistics are against me in a way in the last couple of years," Djokovic stated. "So it is true that (I am) getting injured quite a bit the last few years. I don't know what exactly is the reason for that. Maybe several different factors. But I'll keep going. You know, I'll keep striving to win more Slams. And as long as I feel that I want to put up with all of this, I'll be around."

Despite his absence, Serbian Davis Cup captain Viktor Troicki remains hopeful about his team's chances.

"We are weakened by not playing Novak , but we are still going for the win. The Danes have a great player in Holger Rune, but our players are also great, and I believe in my team," Troicki commented.

Djokovic, who played a crucial role in Serbia’s 2010 Davis Cup triumph, had been looking forward to leading his nation once again. However, with his latest injury setback, his focus will now shift toward recovery as he aims to return to full fitness for the rest of the season.
