Carlos Alcaraz did not like the partial closing on the roof in the final of the 2026 Australian Open against Novak Djokovic, getting involved in a heated exchange with the chair umpire.
Alcaraz gets involved into heated conversation with chair umpire
Alcaraz, the top seed in the competition, reached the final after a long five-setter against Alexander Zverev in the semifinal clash. Djokovic had a five-set victory in the last round, defeating two-time defending champion Jannik Sinner.
On Sunday at the Rod Laver Arena, Djokovic raced into the lead, breaking twice in the first set to take it 2-6. Although, roared into form in the second, finding his shots again to win the set 6-2.
Here, the roof that had been open until then, was partially closed, for undisclosed reasons, as it turns out, with the players. The Spanish player did not prefer this and animatedly complained to the umpire and the tournament referee.
"It's unfair that the player doesn't know that," Alcaraz complained.
Unbothered by the change in the surroundings, Alcaraz restarted the game and kept his flow, winning the third set 6-3 with two breaks of serve. A win against Djokovic will make the World No.1 complete the Career Grand Slam -- the youngest man in the Open Era to do so.
