Carlos Alcaraz may only be 22 years old, but his growing collection of trophies and sneakers is already becoming a problem at home. The Spanish tennis sensation, who recently claimed his 21st career title and now boasts five Grand Slam victories, admitted that finding room for all his accolades is proving increasingly difficult.
Too much silverware, too little space
In an interview with HTSI Magazine by the Financial Times, the reigning French Open champion shared a light-hearted yet telling glimpse into his life off the court.
There are trophies in my room and in the living room, said Alcaraz. We're looking for more spaces to put them.
Among his many accolades is an Olympic silver medal, adding to the clutter in his family’s home in Murcia, Spain. However, not all his trophies are welcome under his roof especially the oversized ones. Alcaraz humorously pointed to the iconic Queen’s Club trophy, which he won this summer:
I'm not taking that one home.
Sneaker obsession adds to the clutter
It’s not just trophies taking up space. Alcaraz admitted that his love for sneakers is becoming a serious issue in the household.
I'm a complete sneaker fanatic, he revealed. I love them. And there isn’t any space left at home. My mother tells me off because I come back from every tournament with more sneakers and she says ‘No, don’t bring more, there’s nowhere to put them’.
Cincinnati and US Open await
Alcaraz’s next chance to expand his trophy cabinet is right around the corner. After recently pulling out of tournaments in Washington and Canada to rest and recover, he is expected to compete at the Cincinnati Open in Ohio next week. This event will be a key part of his preparation for the US Open, set to begin later this month.
As one of the most exciting young talents in tennis, Carlos Alcaraz’s problem isn’t just beating the competition, it’s finding space for all his victories.
