The British star aims to translate her new approach into consistent results at Flushing Meadows.

Emma Raducanu is back at Flushing Meadows, the scene of her greatest triumph, as she looks to reignite her career at the 2025 US Open. Four years after her historic title run as a teenage qualifier, the British star is now embracing new coaching methods in hopes of recreating similar magic.

Emma Raducanu's return to where it all began

In 2021, Raducanu stunned the sporting world when she lifted the US Open trophy at just 18 years old without dropping a single set—a feat never achieved before by a qualifier. That remarkable run instantly made her a global name, but the years that followed have seen ups and downs, with frequent coaching changes and injury setbacks.

Now, at 22, she returns to New York ranked No. 35 in the world and eager to prove herself once again. This time, she arrives with Spanish coach Francisco Roig by her side—a man who brings years of experience from his time with Rafael Nadal’s camp.

Building chemistry with Francisco Roig

Roig joined Emma Raducanu’s team ahead of the Cincinnati Open, where she showed promising form by reaching the semifinals at the Citi Open and then pushing Aryna Sabalenka to a final-set tiebreak in Ohio. The early signs suggest their partnership could be the stability Raducanu has long needed.

Speaking about her work with Francisco Roig, Raducanu highlighted the balance they’ve struck between hard work and enjoyment.

“I think we’re working a lot on the court, putting a lot of hours in. He loves spending time on court, as well. But we find a good balance. It’s not all just serious,” she explained.

She added that the new approach has kept her energized and focused: “Also time passes so fast, which is a good sign whenever you’re spending time with someone. Overall, I think just working on the quality of my shots and improving them. So I think so far it’s been going pretty well, but I need more time, for sure.”

A fresh mindset before the US Open

The British No. 1 has cycled through multiple coaches since her 2021 breakthrough, but the collaboration with Francisco Roig may mark a turning point. His focus on technical precision and court hours appears to be helping Emma Raducanu regain her confidence while also keeping her training environment less rigid.

For Raducanu, the challenge now is to translate this fresh approach into consistent results on the court. The US Open, where her career reached its peak, offers the perfect stage to showcase whether these changes can deliver success at the highest level once again.
