American tennis player Frances Tiafoe became part of a hilarious incident at the French Open 2026, as a fan smoothly ran away with his racket during the grand celebrations after his sensational second-round win at Roland Garros. Tiafoe had just come through a exhausting five-set clash against Hubert Hurkacz, prevailing 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-4 in a close game that lasted four hours and 43 mins on Court 14.

Funny incident with Frances Tiafoe

Riding the energy of the Paris crowd, Tiafoe went towards the stands to celebrate the match point. Amid the celebrations, one of his rackets went missing, though he only realised it later while continuing to acknowledge the fans.

Rather than reacting with anger over the incident, Tiafoe chose to see the funny side of it. The 28-year-old player later took to Instagram and humorously requested the fan who had walked away with his gear.

“Unreal atmosphere on court 14 today. But I must say to the fan who took my racket at the end when I was celebrating with y'all. Can I please have it back? I’ll bless you with two tickets for my next match. Dm @brian_kub1k to collect my racket, thanks for the love y’all,” wrote Tiafoe on his Instagram story.

Luckily, Tiafoe confirmed to TNT sports that he got his racket back from the fan after appealing through Instagram. While continuing, Tiafoe revealed that he considers the racket a lucky charm, which makes the return even more important ahead of his next clash against Portugal's Jamie Faria.
