Indian Wells: Tallon Griekspoor stuns Alexander Zverev

It was a moment to cherish for the Dutchman as he collapsed on the court after converting his sixth match point to end an marathon three hour, seven minute affair under the sunny skies on the Stadium One court. Griekspoor talked about the mental battle while talking to the press after his emphatic win.

I'm incredibly proud. It was such a mental battle to beat him.

Zverev led the head-to-head battle but this time around it was Griekspoor who finally came out on top.

I beat him once but then lost the next six times so it was such a mental thing. Happy to finally get it out of the way, the Dutchman said.

Zverev was serving for the match in the second set but was unable to get over the line as Griekspoor bounced back to force a decider. After failing to convert five match points to win the match in the third set, the Dutchman regrouped and won the deciding tiebreak. This was a first win for the 28-year-old over a top five opponent in 19 attempts.

The jubilation was witnessed on the court as Griekspoor wrote 'finally' on the TV camera after the hard fought victory.

Alexander Zverev says not playing good tennis

The German has struggled to regain his form ever since he lost to world number one Jannik Sinner during the recently concluded 2025 Australian Open finals.

After the match Zverev told the reporters,

I'm just not playing good tennis at the moment. It's as simple as that. I'm not playing a level that I want to play, definitely not playing anywhere near what I played in Australia. I'm just disappointed with my game.

He further shed light that it was time that he got back to the drawing board.

Right now it's not clicking. I have to find a way to make that happen, Zverev concluded.
