Carlos Alcaraz recently announced that he is parting ways with long-time coach Juan Carlos Ferrero in a sudden statement after seven years, ahead of the 2026 season. Ferrero helped the tennis sensation win six Grand Slam titles, a silver medal in the Olympics, and reach No. 1 in the ATP Rankings.
The Spanish player became the year-end No. 1 for the second time, clinched his second Roland Garros title, and bagged his second US Open trophy as his sixth major in 2025. Ferrero, who himself is a former World No. 1 and a Grand Slam champion, started working with Alcaraz when the player was merely 16.
Despite the success, the two decided to call it quits ahead of the 2026 tennis season. The news has shocked the whole tennis world, and here is why the two decided to part ways ahead of the upcoming season.
Reason revealed behind Carlos Alcaraz ending his successful partnership with coach Jual Carlos Ferrero
According to tennis specialist Javier de Dieg, the split between Alcaraz and Ferrero happened due to the breakdown in relations over a contract. It has been revealed that there are significant disagreements between Ferrero and Alcaraz’s father about how to manage the player’s career. As quoted by a tennis magazine, Clay, he said:
“The relationship broke down two days ago when no agreement was reached in the negotiations for the new contract.”
Alcaraz, in his announcement post on his social media account, wrote a heartfelt message and thanked him for making his childhood dream come true. Alcaraz also thanked his now-former coach for making him grow not just as an athlete, but also as a person.
The 22-year-old mentioned in his post that he and the coach need “change, new adventures and new projects” as they enter the new calendar year.
