Four years after her emotional retirement at the 2022 US Open, tennis legend Serena Williams is reportedly preparing a return to competitive action. The 23-time Grand Slam champion has requested a wild card to compete in the women's doubles draw at the 2026 Queen's Club Championships in London.
Serena Williams eyes sensational comeback at Queen's Club with Victoria Mboko
According to The Telegraph, Williams has targeted the grass-court WTA 500 event set to begin on June 8 as her comeback stage. She would partner with rising Canadian star Victoria Mboko, the 19-year-old who has surged to No. 9 in the world rankings following a strong 2025 season featuring a WTA title and deep major runs.
Williams last played competitively in September 2022, where she bid farewell to the sport in front of a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium after a first-round loss. In the years since, she has focused on family, business ventures, and occasional exhibition or practice appearances while consistently denying full-scale comeback rumors.
A key procedural step enabled this potential return: Williams re-entered the WTA's anti-doping testing pool last year. After completing the mandatory six-month period, she became eligible to compete again. Tournament organizers at Queen's have two wild card slots available in doubles, making accommodation straightforward, especially for a former world No. 1 and multiple Grand Slam champion.
