The 2026 French Open qualifiers have already kicked off ahead of the main draw. Meanwhile, the clay court was in the news for something unprofessional between the two players. A chair umpire was forced to physically intervene and separate Spanish veteran Pedro Martínez and Japan's Rei Sakamoto following a heated confrontation at the end of their first-round qualifying match at the 2026 Roland-Garros on Tuesday.

Martínez defeated the younger Sakamoto in straight sets, but tensions boiled over near the umpire's chair, prompting the official to step down and push the players apart. The video has gone viral on the internet. The umpire actively held back Martínez, who appeared visibly agitated and gestured toward his opponent while exchanging words, as per the viral video.

Sakamoto, wearing a white cap, stood facing him with visible back-and-forth gesturing. Witnesses and social media observers noted Martínez appearing to issue a "wanna go outside" taunt amid the exchange, highlighting rare on-court friction during the high-stakes qualifying rounds where a spot in the main draw of the French Open is at stake.

Such post-match altercations are uncommon in tennis, a sport known for its decorum, but they underscore the intense pressure of Grand Slam qualifiers. Martínez, a more experienced player seeded in the qualifying draw, secured the victory, while Sakamoto, noted by some fans for an energetic and sometimes provocative on-court style, was on the receiving end of the veteran’s frustration.
