WWE's Chief Content Officer Triple H revealed that he blocked five-time World Champion CM Punk's return plans a few years ago.
Triple H blocked CM Punk's WWE return
When Punk left the company in 2014, relations between the two concerned parties became bitter. CM Punk was determined that he would not make a return again. Over the period of time, there were some rumors about his comeback but nothing materialized. After almost a decade, Punk made a return at the Survivor Series 2023.
During a conversation at WWE Unreal, Triple H recalled a meeting between him and Punk a few years ago where there were discussions about a comeback. He believed that CM Punk would be difficult to work with and cancelled the plan. He mentioned that scenario changed only after their conversation which took place in 2023.
"I felt like how he communicated with others needed to change. One time when he and I met after he had left, this was years later, where there was a conversation about him coming back. I said, "Still the same dude, won't work." The last time that we met and talked with him, I felt like he honestly was different. It's almost like in the phone call, we both realised, like, he is different. No, I am different. Let's give it a shot."
Triple H said that back in time, he was trying to become the bridge between the company and the stars. But, he believed that CM Pun did not want his help.
"But Punk would never let me assist, and he would sometimes attack me. There would be moments where we'd have a meeting and he'd come at me and I'd be leaving there thinking like, 'This little motherf*cker.' Punk didn't trust me, and I didn't trust Punk."
Gratefully, Hunter and Punk have resolved their issues, leading to the Best in the World having an amazing run with the company as one of their biggest babyfaces.
