India's ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan has served as an exciting launching pad for a new generation of bowling talent, with debutants Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey, and Prince Yadav all making a highly positive impression. While all three newcomers have shown immense promise, it is Gurnoor who has captured the spotlight. The six-foot-five pace prospect has consistently troubled the opposition batters with his sharp bounce and raw speed, combining his physical advantages with a commendable level of control that belies his international inexperience.

Through just his first two appearances, Gurnoor has already translated that raw potential into tangible results, dismantling the Afghanistan batting lineup to claim six wickets. What has truly raised expectations about the 26-year-old's long-term future, however, is his remarkable composure and effectiveness during the high-pressure death overs. The young speedster clearly understands the demands of modern white-ball cricket, placing a heavy personal emphasis on perfecting the ultimate defensive and attacking weapon: the yorker.
The management and bowling coach back me a lot: Gurnoor Brar
Following India's victory in the second ODI in Lucknow, Gurnoor highlighted this mindset, stating to reporters that executing yorkers consistently is a non-negotiable skill for any modern fast bowler. He noted that his training is heavily focused on refining his death-overs accuracy, recognising that a reliable yorker is vital when facing explosive power-hitters at the end of an innings. This focused approach is being well-nurtured by the Indian team management, as Gurnoor revealed that the coaching staff has instructed him to trust his natural strengths rather than overcomplicating his game with new variations.
“The management and bowling coach back me a lot, which gives me the chance to bowl more openly. They didn’t give me any new tips; they just told me to back my strength," Gurnoor told reporters after India's series-clinching win over Afghanistan in second ODI.

Gurnoor Brar becomes only 2nd Indian to notch this ODI feat
Gurnoor Brar turned in a spectacular performance in the second ODI against Afghanistan, not only bowling India to an emphatic 170-run victory but also notching a special milestone for himself. By claiming three wickets in each of his first two international matches, the young pacer achieved a rare feat in Indian cricket history. He became only the second Indian bowler ever to dismiss at least three batters in each of his first two ODI appearances, joining an exclusive club previously occupied solely by leg-spinner Piyush Chawla.
While maintaining that level of dominance in a second consecutive game is incredibly rare, entering the international circuit with a three-wicket haul is a milestone shared by a select group of Indian talent. Gurnoor and his fellow debutant Harsh Dubey belong to a cohort of 21 Indian bowlers who have managed to scalp three wickets on their ODI debut—a list that also includes Chawla.
Gurnoor will look to continue his hot form in the third ODI against Afghanistan, which is scheduled to be played on June 20 in Chennai.
