Bangladesh's star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling from England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) tournaments. This big decision came after an independent testing at Loughborough University earlier this month revealed that his bowling action was found to be illegal. The issue with Shakib's action was first raised by the umpires during his one-off appearance for Surrey in the County Championship back in September.

However, Shakib will need to undergo a reassessment of his action in order to lift the suspension. For the suspension to be lifted, his degree of elbow extension during the testing must be below the 15-degree threshold specified in the regulations.
The suspension of Shakib Al Hasan became effective on December 10th, the same day the ECB received the assessment results from Loughborough University.
Prior to the suspension, Shakib had a notable performance for Surrey County Cricket Club in September. He claimed nine wickets in a match against Taunton, marking his return to county cricket after a decade-long absence.
The star all-rounder's career has recently faced a series of challenges, with things not going well for him. One of the major controversies he became embroiled in was his involvement in a murder case linked to an anti-government protest in Bangladesh. As a result of this, Shakib has not returned to his home country and is currently residing in the USA. This controversy intensified following protests in July and August, during which several hundred civilians, mostly university students, lost their lives.
In addition to the controversy, Shakib Al Hasan made the decision to retire from T20 internationals after the 2024 T20 World Cup. He also announced his departure from the longest format of the game. However, he expressed a desire to play one final match in front of his home crowd, which he hoped would be against the South Africa.
Shakib was earlier granted permission by the BCB to participate in the series. However, he was later prohibited from playing due to security concerns. The second Test against India, , which took place in Kanpur, was Shakib's last appearance for the Bangladesh team. Since then, Shakib has not taken part in any international cricket. Instead, he has been playing in various leagues around the world. Moreover, the all-rounder has also made it clear that he will retire from ODIs after the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
