ICC penalised New Zealand and England for slow over rate.

The inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) winners New Zealand and England have been penalized some crucial WTC points due to a slow over-rate in the first Test match between them. England are already out of the WTC final contention and on the other hand, there are chances that BlackCaps can qualify for the finale which is scheduled to take place next year.

After getting penalised by the ICC for the slow over rate, New Zealand now have a points percentage of 47.92 and can only move up to 55.36% even if they win their remaining Tests of the series against England. As a result, New Zealand have now dropped from joint-fourth to fifth in the standings.

After this New Zealand will face a tough ask to qualify for next year's one-off Test in June 2025, with two wins against England and several other results also needing to go their way if they are to reach the Lord's decider.

New Zealand and England were both found to have three overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration, with sides penalised one point for each over they were found to be short.

New Zealand are scheduled to play three Test match series against England and now the second Test match will take place from December 6-10. After winning the first clash England are leading 1-0. The upcoming clash will be a do-or-die clash for Blackcaps.
