'I don't want to talk much about it now': Pakistan pacer reacts to Muneeba Ali run-out controversy in Women's World Cup 2025 clash vs India
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana argues with the umpire over Muneeba Ali's run-out.

Story Highlights:

Muneeba Ali was run out in the second over.

There was several minutes of delay following Muneeba's dismissal.

The Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 clash between India and Pakistan turned out to be a one-sided encounter. Harmanpreet Kaur-led India beat Pakistan by 88 runs at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. But, Pakistan’s run chase got off to a controversial start. Their opener Muneeba Ali was hit on the pad and the Indian team appealed for an lbw. Meanwhile, Deepti Sharma hit the stumps with her throw. Muneeba had grounded her bat at first but just when the ball was about to hit the stumps, she lifted it, leading to her run out. It led to controversy and Pakistan captain Fatima Sana was crying foul at the boundary line. However, after the drubbing in Colombo, Pakistan camp accepted the dismissal. In the post-match press conference, Pakistan pacer Diana Baig said that the issue has been resolved.

"Muneeba's run-out issue has already been settled, I believe. I don't want to talk much about it now. Whatever happened and whatever the situation was, I think it has been resolved," Diana said.

Pakistan fans on social media feel that the dismissal was against the spirit of cricket but it isn’t. Here’s what the ICC Playing Condition 30.1.1 states -

“A batter shall be considered to be out of his/her ground unless some part of his/her person or bat is grounded behind the popping crease at that end."

Law 30.1.2 adds, “However, a batter shall not be considered to be out of his/her ground if, in running or diving towards his/her ground and beyond, and having grounded some part of his/her person or bat beyond the popping crease, there is subsequent loss of contact between the ground and any part of his/her person or bat, or between the bat and person."

Comprehensive win for India

After several minutes of delay, the decision stood. Muneeba was dismissed after scoring just two runs from 12 balls. Sidra Amin fought the lone battle in the run chase of 248. She scored 81 runs from 106 balls, including nine fours and a six. But, her half-century went in vain as Pakistan were bowled out for 159 in 43 overs.

While it is India’s second win in a row, it is Pakistan’s second consecutive loss. The win helped India climb to the top of the points table whereas Pakistan are in the sixth position.
