Sunil Gavaskar praised Nitish Reddy.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar lavished Nitish Kumar Reddy with accolades, calling him one of the "brightest young stars in Indian cricket." Gavaskar added that in the early stages of his international career, Nitish's batting exhibited more sophistication than Hardik Pandya's. In the Border Gavaskar Trophy match versus Australia, Nitish, who is only 21 years old, is establishing a strong reputation. Because of his ability to remain composed under pressure, he has continuously become India's go-to player in difficult circumstances. Even though India lost by 184 runs in the first innings of the just-finished Melbourne Test, Nitish made a splash with his debut century.

In the first innings of the Melbourne Test, Nitish batted at number eight and helped India close the gap with an outstanding 114 runs. His father was at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which added to the moment's significance and made the accomplishment much more memorable.

Gavaskar praises Nitish Reddy

"The Melbourne Test brought to the fore one of the brightest young stars in Indian cricket, Nitish Kumar Reddy. He came to the attention of the Indian cricket fans with his performances for the Hyderabad franchise in the IPL, and while he had not done much at the first-class level, it's a credit to Ajit Agarkar and his fellow selectors to have seen enough to pitchfork him into the Test arena," Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.

In Perth and Adelaide, Nitish had already drawn attention with his significant 40-run contributions, but it was his incredible century in Melbourne—against players like Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc, and Scott Boland—that really made him famous throughout the world. Although Nitish's bowling is still a work in progress, he has demonstrated great promise as a batsman. His ability to become a true match-winning all-rounder for India may depend on how well he uses the ball.

"In his debut Test match in Perth itself, it became evident that here was a cricketer who could read situations and play accordingly. With every subsequent Test match, that impression of a good 'cricketing head' on his shoulders began to get stronger and stronger," he added.

Nitish Kumar Reddy has shown promise as a rising star in Indian cricket by scoring 294 runs and taking three wickets in the four Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

"And in Melbourne, when India were looking down the barrel, he came through the fire with an outstanding century that has cemented his place in the team for a long time to come. Ever since the unavailability of Hardik Pandya for Test cricket, India has been looking for an all-rounder who can bowl medium pace and bat as well. Reddy's bowling is still a work in progress, but as a batter, he is definitely better than Pandya was around the same time," Gavaskar said.
