In a series of surprising events, a big update on Virat Kohli's injury has emerged ahead of the ODI series against England. After sustaining a hamstring injury during the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans, Virat's participation in the ODI series against England remained under doubts.
Big update on Virat Kohli's fitness
Sports Tak has learnt that Virat is progressing well following right hamstring injury endured in the IPL 2026 final. He was assessed by the CoE team in London and suggested a proper program to continue the initial phase of rehab.

The former India skipper will report to the CoE on Monday, June 22 for re-evaluation which will lead to further planning and subsequent clearance. If everything goes well, then the star batter can make his appearance in the three-match ODI series against the Three Lions.
Virat Kohli's absence in ODI series against Afghanistan
Notably, Virat Kohli was picked for the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan, but got ruled out of it, as he could not get fit in time to take part in the home assignment. Star Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was named as Virat's replacement in the squad and has played one game so far in the series.
Now, all the focus remains on Virat's upcoming fitness assessment, to get more clarity on his participation in the England ODIs. It has to be noted that the ODI series against the Three Lions is very important with keeping the preparations for the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 in mind.
All you need to know about India's tour of England
India will tour England for five T20Is and three ODIs, starting from July 1. The first T20I will be played at the Riverside Ground in Chester-Le-Street. Meanwhile, the last game of the T20I series will be played on July 11 at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton.
Following the T20Is, the teams transition to a key three-game ODI series, which is very crucial in terms of the preparation of the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2027.
