Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel is still not confident of KL Rahul's availability for their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 tournament opener against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24 at ACA International Cricket Stadium - Visakhapatnam. There were reports that the wicketkeeper batter will miss the initial matches of the tournament because of personal reasons.
DC spent 14 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction to bring KL Rahul in their squad for the ongoing season. The wicketkeeper batter was released by LSG after IPL 2024. Ahead of the opener clash DC skipper Axar Patel said that the management doesn't know about KL Rahul's availability for their clash against LSG.
“Obviously, he joined the team. We don’t know yet (if he’ll play). Right now we don’t know if he is available or not,” Axar said on the eve of the match.
KL Rahul's last cricket outing came during ICC Champions Trophy 2025 where India defeated New Zealand in the final to win the title at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. The wicketkeeper batter didn’t join DC until yesterday (March 22). The wicketkeeper batter had instead decided to train under Team India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in Mumbai rather than joining DC.
