Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured their third win of the season by defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) by a huge margin of 103 runs in their IPL 2026 clash on Thursday, April 23 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The game was purely dominated by CSK players with Sanju Samson scoring an unbeaten 101 off 54 balls to help the side post 207/6 in 20 overs. Then, Akeal Hosein scalped four wickets for 17 runs to dismantle MI's star-studded batting line-up.
Big feat for Chennai Super Kings
CSK's dominant win over their arch-rival Hardik Pandya-led side at the Wankhede Stadium etched their name in the record books, as they became the first team ever to defeat MI by a margin of over 100 runs in the history of IPL.
Previously, the record of biggest win against MI belonged to Rajasthan Royals (RR), defeating the Mumbai-based side by 87 runs on April 13 in the 2013 edition of the tournament.
Chasing a target of 180, the Nita Ambani-owned side crumbled to 92 all out in 18.2 overs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Chennai's biggest win in IPL
Notably, CSK's win over MI by 103 runs marked their biggest victory in the history of IPL, surpassing their previous best - a 97-run triumph over Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) in 2015 season at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Big jump for CSK in IPL 2026
After a huge win against MI, CSK jumped to the fifth place in the standings with six points in hand after playing seven matches. The Yellow Army also had a surge in their net run rate, which now stands at +0.118.
