Mumbai Indians hammered Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were of no match to Mumbai Indians (MI) as they suffered a crushing seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Paltans in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium on April 23. Rohit Sharma's spectacular knock of 70 runs coupled with Trent Boult's fiery four-fer to ensure MI win the match without breaking a sweat.

Despite a valiant effort from Heinrich Klaasen (71) and Abhinav Manohar (43), Hyderabad ultimately failed to capitalise on the game's crucial moments and were bundled out for just 143/8, thanks to Trent Boult's superlative 4/26.

Rohit then set the tone for MI's batting while chasing a modest target. The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickleton provided a spectacular start for the side. Although Rickleton was dismissed early for 11 runs, Rohit Sharma continued his stellar form, delivering a powerful knock and achieving consecutive half-centuries in the ongoing IPL 2025. Will Jacks also contributed a quickfire 22 runs off 19 balls. While Rohit was eventually dismissed at 70, he had effectively laid the foundation for Mumbai's victory. Suryakumar Yadav then played a vital innings, scoring a composed 40 runs that guided Mumbai Indians to seal the win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Uppal.

Meanwhile, SRH captain Pat Cummins is still trying to process what's wrong with his team. Cummins, while ruing MI's defeat, said the difference between their first match, where SRH post 280-plus runs, and the match against MI is big. He also said that SRH needed someone to steady the ship when they were losing back-to-back wickets.

"Klaasen and Abhinav did well for us to get to a total. Never got going. After a couple of wickets, you have to find a way to steady the ship. Couldn't do that. (Was there pressure to score high on this pitch) We spoke about the pitch before the match. You're allowed to bowl a good over, build your innings and you can catch up. You have to start 0 for 0, it's about assessing the pitch each time you play. The difference between the first game where we got 280-plus and the next, where we folded, was big. That's T20, you don't know what happens. Hasn't worked out so far. We have a few away games now. It's about assessing each wicket quickly. Some days it might be all-out attack and there'll be graft on others," Cummins said at the post-match presentation.

This was MI's fourth consecutive win in a row in the ongoing IPL 2025 which rocketed them to the third in the points table. Meanwhile, SRH recorded their sixth defeat to remain at the ninth spot in the standings.

Hardik Pandya's MI will next face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 27 at the Wankhede stadium while the depleted SRH will lock horns against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 25 at the Chepauk stadium.
