Speculations are rife that Shanaka will replace ousted Harry Brook in DC squad

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka was spotted at the Delhi Capitals' training camp, fueling speculation that he may be stepping in to replace England's Harry Brook. Shanaka was seen participating in a temple visit alongside several other Delhi Capitals players, adding to the rumors surrounding his potential inclusion in the squad.

This development follows Harry Brook's decision to withdraw from the tournament, citing a desire to prioritise his international career. Delhi Capitals had secured Brook for INR 6.25 crore, marking the second consecutive year they had acquired his services. Despite Shanaka's presence at the camp, the Delhi Capitals have yet to issue an official announcement confirming his signing.

DC had initially secured Harry Brook for Rs 4 crore at the IPL 2024 auction, but he withdrew before the tournament after his grandmother passed away. Consequently, due to new IPL regulations, Brook now faces a two-year ban from the competition. Meanwhile, Dasun Shanaka, who has been observed at the Delhi Capitals' camp, brings prior IPL experience, having played for the Gujarat Titans in 2023. During his three appearances, he scored 26 runs. He has also participated in the ILT20 2025 for the Dubai Capitals, where he accumulated 164 runs in 12 matches. In contrast, Harry Brook's IPL experience includes a stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023, where he turned heads with an unbeaten century against Kolkata Knight Riders. Though his overall performance was lackluster, with 190 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 123.37.
