Indian star all-rounder Shardul Thakur who went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction reportedly all set to sign an IPL contract with Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Thakur was spotted with the LSG squad during their IPL 2025 preparations and he will join the squad as injury replacement for Mohsin Khan for the upcoming edition of the tournament.
As per TOI, LSG is yet to make an official announcement but Shardul has been informed about the decision and will be travelling with the side to Visakhapatnam for their season opener vs Delhi Capitals.
Mohsin got an ACL injury that forced him out from the cricketing action for the last three months and then he got a calf strain when he resumed bowling in the LSG nets. LSG's core group of seamers including Mayank Yadav are currently on the road to recovery at the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE), the management was forced to take the call on an injury replacement.
Shardul Thakur's IPL career
Shardul Thakur has picked up 94 wickets and scored 307 runs in the IPL career, after getting released from CSK ahead of the mega auction, the star surprisingly failed to find any buyers in the mega auction last year. Shardul made his international debut in 2017 and played 11 Tests, 47 ODIs and 25 T20Is for Men in Blue. The star all-rounder is currently in the form of his life.
How can Shardul Thakur join LSG?
Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants are currently in a tough situation as their three fast bowlers - Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan are currently injured and will likely miss the action, and in that case, the franchise can sign Shardul Thakur as the replacement for the upcoming edition of the tournament.
Shardul Thakur's performance in IPL 2024
Shardul Thakur was featured for Ruturaj Gaikwad-led CSK in the last edition of the tournament where he picked up five wickets in nine outings. The five-time champions got out of the tournament after losing their must-win clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
