Following their commanding seven-wicket victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians (MI) have taken a big jump in the IPL 2025 standings. This win has propelled the five-time champions to third place on the IPL 2025 points table, now holding a total of 10 points from their nine matches played. Beyond just adding to their points tally, the victory has also substantially improved their Net Run Rate (NRR) to +0.673.
Mumbai Indians surge to third spot in IPL 2025 points table
Mumbai Indians' turnaround in the latter half of the season is nothing short of sensational. After an unsteady start, Mumbai Indians recorded their fourth win in a row after annihilating SRH. With a current record of five wins and four losses, Hardik Pandya's team has firmly positioned themselves in the playoff contention, although the increasingly tight competition means they have limited margin for any future slip-ups.
In sharp contrast to Mumbai's success, Sunrisers Hyderabad's struggles persist. Their heavy defeat against MI marked their sixth loss in eight matches, leaving them languishing at the bottom of the league table alongside Chennai Super Kings. While both SRH and CSK have accumulated just four points, SRH's NRR of -1.361 is only marginally better than Chennai's -1.392. Pat Cummins-led side has struggled with consistency, particularly in their batting performances, and their hopes of reaching the playoffs are now hanging precariously.
At the opposite end of the table, Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals are currently leading the pack, each having secured 12 points from their eight games played. Gujarat Titans hold the coveted top spot due to their superior NRR of +1.104, while Delhi Capitals are a close second with an NRR of +0.657.
The race for the remaining playoff berths is intensely competitive, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants all locked on 10 points. RCB and Punjab Kings possess healthy NRRs of +0.472 and +0.177 respectively, which could give them an edge. However, Lucknow Super Giants' negative NRR of -0.054 could prove detrimental in the event of tie-breakers.
