Royal Challengers Bengaluru annihilated Delhi Capitals by nine wickets

RCB first bowled out DC for 75 and then wrapped up the chase in just 39 balls

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wreaked mayhem at the Arun Jaitley stadium after notching a thumping nine-wicket win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in their IPL 2026 clash. RCB first rode on Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar's combined 7-fer to bowl out DC for a mere 75 runs. In reply, RCB completed the chase in just 39 balls.

RCB demolish DC by 9 wickets

RCB will next face Gujarat Titans on April 29, while DC will lock horns with Rajasthan Royals on May 1.

Chasing a modest target of 76 runs, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru adopted a measured approach at the start, accumulating 13 runs in the opening two overs. Boundaries from Virat Kohli and Jacob Bethell signaled the team's intent, but the chase accelerated significantly in the third over when Bethell launched a counter-offensive against Kyle Jamieson. He struck back-to-back sixes to inject momentum into the innings, though he was eventually dismissed shortly after for 20 runs off 11 balls.

Virat Kohli-Devdutt Padikkal wrap up chase in 6.3 overs

With the initial breakthrough behind them, Devdutt Padikkal took command of the crease, dismantling the bowling in the fifth over with a flurry of two fours and two sixes. This aggressive assault propelled RCB to 60 runs within just five overs, effectively sealing the outcome of the match. It was fitting that Virat Kohli delivered the finishing blow, striking two successive sixes to clinch the victory—a moment that also saw him reach the historic milestone of 9,000 IPL runs. RCB cruised to a final score of 77 for 1 in just 6.3 overs, with Padikkal remaining unbeaten on 34 runs off 13 balls and Kohli finishing not out on 25 off 13.

DC crumble to 75 after Hazlewood-Bhuvneshwar's fury

Earlier, RCB unleashed a brutal powerplay ambush that folded DC for a lowly 75. This devastating new-ball spell scripted one of the most dramatic openings in IPL history, with RCB turning the powerplay into a complete demolition act. Led by Josh Hazlewood, who finished with impressive figures of 4/12, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who claimed 3/5, the visitors’ relentless accuracy and movement rendered the contest one-sided from the very first over, leaving the Capitals completely shell-shocked.

The mayhem commenced on just the second ball of the innings when Bhuvneshwar Kumar unleashed an in-dipping yorker to uproot debutant Sahil Parakh’s middle stump, setting a grim tone for the rest of the innings. Josh Hazlewood quickly capitalized on this breakthrough, sending shockwaves through the packed stadium by removing last-match centurion KL Rahul and Sameer Rizvi on consecutive deliveries. While Rahul mistimed a pull shot, Rizvi edged a delivery away from his body, and within moments, the Capitals found themselves in dire straits.

The misery only deepened as the RCB pacers showed no signs of respite. Bhuvneshwar returned to dismiss Tristan Stubbs, who edged a length delivery to Devdutt Padikkal at slip. Shortly after, the carnage reached its crescendo when Delhi skipper Axar Patel nicked a teasing outswinger from Bhuvneshwar to the wicketkeeper, leaving the home crowd in stunned silence. By the time Hazlewood dismissed Nitish Rana in the fourth over, the Capitals were reeling at a surreal 9 for 6, having managed only a single boundary during the entire powerplay.

Despite their horrific start, the Delhi Capitals eventually managed to push their total to 75 all out in 16.3 overs, narrowly avoiding the ignominy of recording the lowest total in IPL history—a dubious record held by RCB for their 49-run performance against Kolkata in 2017. Only Abhishek Porel (30), David Miller (19), and Kyle Jamieson (12) managed to reach double digits as the rest of the batting lineup folded under the pressure. It was fitting that Hazlewood put the final nail in the coffin by castling Porel to end a performance that was as humiliating for Delhi as it was masterful for Bengaluru.
