Sri Lankan all-rounder Kamindu Mendis showcased an extraordinary display of fielding prowess during CSK versus SRH's IPL 2025 clash, executing a catch that has undoubtedly placed him among the frontrunners for the best catch of IPL 2025. Mendis captivated the Chennai crowd with a breathtaking effort to dismiss the dangerous-looking Dewald Brevis, who was enjoying a scintillating debut for Chennai Super Kings.
In a remarkable piece of athleticism, Kamindu Mendis covered a substantial distance, sprinting in from the long-on position. He then launched himself into a full-length dive, perfectly timing his jump to intercept a powerfully struck, flat shot from Brevis that was seemingly destined for the cover region. Opting for a secure two-handed approach rather than a riskier one-handed attempt, Mendis successfully pouched the ball, ensuring it remained airborne as he completed his dive and rolled over. He then proudly held up the ball in his hand, confirming the clean nature of the spectacular catch.
The stunning moment unfolded in the 13th over of the innings, bowled by Harshal Patel, who delivered a fuller length delivery outside the off-stump. Brevis, who had previously dispatched a short ball for a six over the covers, attempted a similar flat six through the cover area. However, Kamindu Mendis' exceptional fielding intervention brought an end to Brevis' impressive innings of 42 runs off just 25 deliveries.

In the preceding over, Kamindu Mendis had been on the receiving end of three sixes from the bat of the aggressive Dewald Brevis. However, displaying remarkable composure, Mendis remained unfazed and maintained his concentration while fielding near the boundary. Brevis himself was visibly taken aback by the brilliance of the catch and sought confirmation from the umpire to ensure its legitimacy. The on-field umpire promptly signaled that the catch was clean, triggering an eruption of joyous celebration among SRH supporters as Brevis, who had looked poised for a substantial score, was sent back to the pavilion.
Prior to Brevis' dismissal, young Ayush Mhatre, had provided a brief glimmer of hope with a quickfire 30 runs off 19 balls during the powerplay. However, other key batsmen such as Sam Curran, batting at No. 3, managed only 9 runs off 10 deliveries, and Ravindra Jadeja contributed 21 runs off 17 balls without making any impact. Even MS Dhoni struggled to get going, eventually losing his wicket cheaply for just 6 runs off 10 balls in the 17th over, further compounding CSK's batting woes. CSK ended up posting a total of 154.
