Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have shared a crucial fitness update on star spinner Varun Chakaravarthy ahead of their important IPL 2026 clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) at Eden Gardens on Saturday. The franchise confirmed that the mystery spinner has resumed bowling in the nets, offering a major boost to KKR as they continue their push for a playoff spot in the ongoing season.

Varun Chakaravarthy’s possible return could boost KKR
Chakaravarthy’s fitness has remained a significant talking point in recent days, especially considering his importance to Kolkata’s bowling attack.
“He bowled in the nets today at Eden Gardens. The medical team and coaching staff are keeping a close eye on his progress and availability for tomorrow,” KKR said in an official statement.
The update has come at a crucial stage of the tournament, with Kolkata still mathematically alive in the playoff race. The coaching staff is reportedly monitoring the spinner closely before taking a final decision on his inclusion in the playing XI against Gujarat Titans.
Varun Chakaravarthy has once again played a key role for KKR during IPL 2026 with his variations and middle-over control proving valuable in multiple matches. His return would provide the side with much-needed experience and balance during the business end of the season.
The three-time IPL champions have struggled with consistency throughout the campaign and currently sit eighth in the points table. KKR have managed four wins from 11 matches so far, while six defeats and one no-result have left them with nine points and a Net Run Rate of -0.198.
