CSK's star all-rounder Jamie Overton has suffered a right thigh injury amidst IPL 2026

CSK management confirmed that Overton has returned to UK for further assessment

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered a massive setback as their star all-rounder Jamie Overton has returned to England in middle of the IPL 2026. CSK officially announced that Overton has picked a right thigh injury and will return to United Kingdon for further assessment and management.

Jamie Overton all but ruled out of IPL 2026

However, CSK have not provided a specific timeline for Jamie Overton’s recovery, leaving it unclear if his season is over or if he might return for a potential playoff run. However, it appears highly unlikely that he will be available for the team’s final three league fixtures, starting with their crucial away game against the Lucknow Super Giants this Friday.

"Jamie Overton has a right thigh injury and will be returning to the UK for further assessment and management," CSK's statement read.

Overton’s absence is a massive blow to the CSK bowling attack, as he currently stands as their second-highest wicket-taker this season. He has claimed 14 wickets at an impressive average of 17.78 and an economy rate of 8.89. His value was most recently highlighted on May 11 at Chepauk, where his figures of 3 for 36 earned him Player of the Match honors in a five-wicket victory over LSG.

The news of Overton’s setback came shortly after the franchise announced the signing of Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Noronha. Noronha joins the squad as a replacement for fast bowler Ramakrishna Ghosh, whose season ended prematurely after suffering a broken foot during his IPL debut.

These injuries are part of a broader trend of personnel losses that have plagued CSK throughout IPL 2026. The team lost Nathan Ellis to a hamstring injury before the tournament even began, followed by the mid-season losses of Khaleel Ahmed and Ayush Mhatre. While Dewald Brevis has returned after missing the opening games, the squad is still waiting on the fitness of Spencer Johnson and legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni, both of whom have yet to feature this year.Despite navigating this relentless injury crisis, the Super Kings remain firmly in the playoff hunt. They currently sit fifth in the points table with 12 points from 11 matches, showing remarkable resilience as they attempt to secure a top-four finish against the odds.
