Once again, Mohammed Shami proved why he is one of India's best pacers after delivering an amazing spell of 4-0-9-2 for Sunrisers Hyderabad in an IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants on April 5 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
Mohammed Shami aims for India comeback
The 35-year-old pacer lost his place in the Indian team after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 triumph under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Since then, Shami has been working hard in the domestic circuit, where he represents Bengal.
At the unveiling of the third season of Bengal Pro T20 League, Mohammed Shami opened up on his wish to make an international comeback, saying he still has that hunger despite all ups and downs in the recent time.
"There will be ups and downs in life -- injuries and all -- but you should never forget your ground-level hard work. we are like labourers, we just have to keep bowling," said Shami.
Shami further added that he will always prioritize domestic cricket, as it is just as important as any other format of the sport.
"As a player, I still have that hunger. If you want to play at that level again, you must have that drive in you. For me, domestic cricket is as important as any format. I always prioritise domestic cricket," Shami concluded.
Mohammed Shami's key role in Ranji Trophy 2025-26
Shami was very instrumental for Bengal's Ranji Trophy 2025-26 campaign, as the pacer clinched 36 wickets in just seven innings at an average of 16.52. He recorded career-best figures in first-class cricket of 8/90 in the semi-final game against Jammu and Kashmir.
How Mohammed Shami has fared so far in IPL 2026?
In the ongoing IPL 2026, Shami has picked up three wickets in two games for Lucknow Super Giants at an economy rate of 4.63 and an average of 12.33. His best figures of 2/9 came against Sunrisers Hyderabad, including 18 dot deliveries.
