Stephen Fleming has come up with a big injury update on MS Dhoni ahead of RR vs CSK clash

Fleming said that MS Dhoni's injury is being managed and he is still very involved with the side

Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has firmly dismissed any suggestions that MS Dhoni's injury-enforced absence in the opening weeks of IPL 2026 marks a transition phase for the franchise. Rather than viewing this as a glimpse into a future without their longtime icon, Fleming insisted that the veteran wicketkeeper-batter remains as deeply influential to the squad as ever.

He also said that Dhoni's calf injury is being managed and the legendary wicketkeeper-batter is still very involved with the side

"It would be a game without him, but not a glimpse of life after MS Dhoni. He is still heavily involved with the side. We are managing and rehabilitating his injury, but his influence on the team is very strong," Fleming said at the pre-match press conference.

Beyond the immediate setbacks, coach Fleming highlighted the escalating physical demands of modern cricket. He pointed out that heavy schedules have made injuries an unavoidable reality for all teams, leveling the playing field. Despite losing marquee players who are notoriously difficult to replace, Fleming expressed immense faith in the depth of the squad. He noted that the vast pool of talent available, particularly in India, gives teams the resources they need to remain highly competitive.

This season is a crucial reset for the five-time champions, who are looking to aggressively bounce back from a disappointing bottom-of-the-table finish last year. Fleming credited their renewed optimism to a heavily refreshed squad and a deliberate, strategic shift toward prioritizing impactful Indian talent.

Dewald Brevis to miss IPL 2026 opener

However, the roster hurdles continue as South African youngster Dewald Brevis has joined the injury list. The explosive batter has been officially ruled out of the upcoming clash against the Rajasthan Royals, as well as the following home fixture against the Punjab Kings, due to a side strain.
