Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have released their captain Faf du Plessis before the mega auction for the upcoming season of the marquee event. The Bengaluru-based franchise will have to appoint their new captain for the upcoming edition of the tournament which is scheduled to start from March 14, 2025. 

Patidar is leading Madhya Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024 where his franchise stormed into the final. After MP's heroics in SMAT, RCB shared a post praising their batter for taking his team to the finale. RCB's post went viral on social media in no time and fans started speculating that he will be the future captain of the franchise.

Patidar is one of the strong contenders to lead RCB in the upcoming season of IPL considering his performance in SMAT. Patidar created history by taking MP into the final of SMAT after a long gap of 13 years. He was one of the consistent batters for Madhya Pradesh, scoring 347 runs including four half-centuries with a strike rate of 182.63.

Patidar who made his IPL debut with RCB in 2021 have retained the star at INR 11.00 Crore. He played 27 matches so far and scored 799 runs at an average of 34.74.
