Rajasthan Royals (RR) endured a heartbreaking loss against Gujarat Titans (GT) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Qualifier 2 clash on Friday, May 29 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. The Riyan Parag-led side failed to defend 215 as GT emerged victorious by seven wickets. However, RR's teen sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi created another record with his impactful innings.

Big feat for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

During his stay at the crease, Vaibhav managed to become the fastest player to breach 1000 run mark in the history of the tournament. The 15-year-old opener took only a total of 440 balls to reach 1000 runs in IPL.

In terms of innings, Vaibhav needed 23 innings to reach the 1000-run mark. Shaun Marsh who played for PBKS took only 21 innings to reach the mega club.

Underwhelming performance from RR

Winning the toss RR skipper Riyan Parag chose to bat first. However, things didn't go as per the plans, as star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was removed by Mohammed Siraj on just 1 run. Meanwhile, Vaibhav managed to play a masterclass knock of 96 runs off 47 balls with the help of eight fours and seven sixes, at a strike rate of 204.26.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja played a stable knock of 45 runs off 35 deliveries. On the other hand, Donovan Ferreira played a quick-fire knock of 38 off just 11 balls, hitting two sixes and four massive sixes. Riding on their efforts, RR managed to post 214/6.

In response, GT chased the target with ease as their opening duo of Sai Sudharsan and skipper Shubman Gill recorded another epic partnership to dismantle the RR bowling attack. Shubman Gill smashed a brilliant century in just 53 balls, before getting dismissed by Jofra Archer on 104 runs. Washington Sundar also smashed 58 runs off just 32 balls, before getting hit wicket on Brijesh Sharma's bowling.

Rahul Tewatia and Jos Buttler finished the game for GT, with 17 off 9 and 9 off 9 respectively. At the end, GT emerged victorious by seven wickets in a thrilling run-chase.
