IPL 2026 is scheduled to start from March 28.

Dhoni is not someone who praises players often, which makes his reactions even more special inside the CSK camp. So when he was seen appreciating Veer’s shots during training, it quickly caught people’s attention and became more than just another practice video.

A clip from Chennai Super Kings' nets session is going viral on social media, where Veer can be seen batting while Dhoni stands behind the stumps. Even in that short moment, his batting made an impact. He played a shot through the offside, and Dhoni immediately reacted with a loud “Shot.”

Soon after, Veer tried a scoop shot, which Dhoni followed closely and signalled as a boundary. Then came a clean straight drive, and once again, Dhoni couldn’t help but appreciate it with another “Shot.”

Who is Prashant Veer?

Prashant Veer is a young all-rounder from Uttar Pradesh who has quickly made a name for himself with his performances in domestic cricket. He is a left-handed batter and a spin bowler who usually plays in the lower middle order.

He came into the spotlight during the IPL 2025 mini auction when Chennai Super Kings signed him for ₹14.20 crore. With that, he became one of the most expensive uncapped players in the league’s history. CSK also picked Kartik Sharma for the same amount, making both of them the joint most expensive uncapped players.

In the Under-23 tournament, Prashant performed strongly with both bat and ball. He scored 376 runs in seven matches at an average of 94, with a strike rate of 128.76. His highest score was 87, and he hit 25 fours and 14 sixes during the tournament. Along with that, he took 18 wickets in seven matches, averaging 22.31 with an economy rate of 5.36. He finished as the third-highest wicket-taker and was named Player of the Tournament for his overall performance.

In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he played three matches, picked up five wickets at an average of 12.80, and had an economy rate of 7.11. He also scored 40 runs in the tournament.
