Andhra Pradesh-born batter Shaik Rasheed, 20, has made his IPL debut as he is playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League clash against Lucknow Super Giants. He has taken the place of Devon Conway, the opener from New Zealand. Against Rishabh Pant-led LSG, CSK made several changes to their batting lineup because they had been having trouble with it throughout the tournament. Due to a fracture in his elbow, Ruturaj Gaikwad will also miss the 2025 Indian Premier League. In his place, MS Dhoni will captain the team.
The team that won the 2022 Indian Under-19 World Cup included Shaik Rasheed. He made a fifty in the final versus England U-19 and scored an incredible 94 runs against Australia in the semi-final, demonstrating his significant contribution to the team. He made his debut for Andhra Pradesh in all forms on the home circuit as a result of his tournament performance.
During his 19 first-class appearances for Andhra, he amassed 1204 runs at 37.42. Rasheed has amassed 627 runs in 12 appearances during the Ranji Trophy 2024–25, including a knock of 203 against Hyderabad. He has scored 352 runs in 13 T20 matches, including an undefeated 100-run total.
For a base price of INR 20 lakh, Shaik Rasheed joined CSK in 2023, however, he was not included in the team that won the trophy. Although he warmed the bench once again, CSK kept the young player in 2024. After six games, he is making his league debut under Mahendra Singh Dhoni's tutelage after being signed by CSK in 2025 for INR 30 lakh.
In addition to Shaik Rasheed, CSK has made two significant changes for its matchup with the Lucknow Super Giants. Jamie Overton will replace Ravichandran Ashwin. After winning the first game of the IPL 2025, CSK has already lost five straight games.
