Vaibhav Sooryavanshi created havoc in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru emerged victorious by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final clash. However, RR's teen sensation bagged the prestigious Orange Cap for being the highest-run getter in the competition.

BCCI responds on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's India debut

With each day people are urging the BCCI to include Vaibhav in India's senior squad, as a reward for his astonishing performances at a tender age of 15 years. In an interaction with reporters, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia claimed the board will take all the necessary measures to get Vaibhav at the highest level of cricket.

“Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a wonderful player coming up, and he has a bright future. BCCI will do everything to get him to the highest level of cricket," said Devajit Saikia after IPL 2026 final.

 

 

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's stellar campaign in IPL 2026

The 15-year-old opener enjoyed a historic individual campaign with the bat, amassing 776 runs in just 16 innings at an average of 48.50 with a humongous strike rate of 237.30. Vaibhav managed to hit one century and five half-centuries throughout the competition.

During his campaign, Vaibhav broke various records and one of them was Chris Gayle's long-standing record of hitting the most number of sixes in a single season. In IPL 2012, Gayle smashed 59 sixes and Vaibhav demolished the record by hitting a total of 72 sixes. Notably, this is also the most number of sixes smashed by any Indian batter in the history of the tournament.

The left-handed opener recorded his top-score of 103 off just 37 balls in a league-stage game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He finished the tournament as the top-run scorer and won the prestigious Orange Cap.
