Punjab Kings (PBKS) have been missing the services of their star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the previous three games. Chahal watched the games from the sidelines due to a wrist injury. However, Sports Tak has learned that Chahal will be available for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Qualifier 2 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) on June 1 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Chahal has been bowling in the nets and looks ready to be part of the side. He can be used as an impact player by captain Shreyas Iyer. In order to prevent any injury, head coach Ricky Ponting may send him before the middle overs.
As Chahal returns, Musheer Khan will sit out. Musheer made his IPL debut as an impact player after PBKS were six wickets down in the ninth over. However, Musheer could not do much with the bat and departed for a three-ball duck. He bowled two overs, conceded 27 runs and got the wicket of Mayank Agarwal.
Chahal's return is a big boost for PBKS considering his record against MI. The experienced leg-spinner has played 20 games against the five-time IPL champions. He has 29 wickets from 20 games at an average of 21.24 against them. His economy rate of eight runs per over is impressive as well.
In their previous clash, Chahal sat on the sidelines as well. At Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, PBKS beat MI by seven wickets.
Chahal's numbers in IPL 2025
In the ongoing season, Chahal was unimpressive at start. He roared back into form with four wickets for 28 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as PBKS defended the lowest total in IPL history. So far, he has 14 scalps from 11 innings at an average of 25.28. His economy rate is 9.56 runs per over in the season.
Chahal's playoffs record
Chahal played his first IPL playoffs match in 2015 edition against Rajasthan Royals (RR). He took two wickets for 20 runs in a winning cause. In the Qualifier 2, he claimed two wickets for 28 runs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) but RCB lost the game by three wickets.
