Story Highlights:

IMD issues a yellow alert for Gujarat, raising the possibility of rain interruptions during the IPL 2026 final.

If the final remains incomplete on both match day and reserve day, RCB will be declared champions for finishing higher in the league standings.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will face Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Final on Sunday May 21 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. RCB have a big chance to successfully defend their title, meanwhile GT can become champions for a second time after being crowned in the 2022 edition.

Rain to play spoilsport?

Today, Ahmedabad had a bright sunny morning. However, concerns on the weather continue to threaten the final clash of IPL 2026. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for parts of Gujarat, with a warning of possible thunderstorms later in the day.

Although Ahmedabad has witnessed intense heat over the last few days, weather conditions would play a key role in determining the winner of the tournament. The city registered a maximum temperature of 43.1 degrees celsius on Saturday, prompting severe heatwave warnings. Although widespread precipitation is expected to come in and around Ahmedabad only from June 1, the chances of a brief rain interruption during tonight's ultimate clash can not be ruled out.

What will happen if the final gets washed out?

The IPL has a reserve day in stock for the final game in case weather or other unforeseen conditions prevent the game from being completed on the originally planned day. However, forecasts suggest that conditions on Monday could be even worse than Sunday.

If the final remains incomplete across both the scheduled day and the reserve day, RCB would be crowned as champions as they finished higher than GT in the IPL 2026 points table.

Key players to watch out in RCB vs GT

RCB would love to see another blistering knock from their skipper Rajat Patidar, as he is going through a purple patch this season. On the other hand, GT would look to have another great start from their opening duo of skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan for one last game.
