India’s legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who played a huge role in T20 World Cup 2007 and ODI World Cup 2011 triumphs, is set to take a coaching role for the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). As per a report by TOI, Yuvraj is set to making his coaching debut for Delhi Capitals (DC) after mentoring players like Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Prabhsimran Singh and others.
The English daily reports that a senior DC official has confirmed the development.
“Who wouldn't want a Yuvraj Singh in the dugout? Many of his former teammates, including Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan and Virender Sehwag, have had coaching stints in the IPL,” the source told the publication.
Currently, Hemang Badani is the head coach of DC. The Delhi franchise is one of the two teams who have been part of the IPL since the inaugural edition but haven’t been able to lift the trophy. The Axar Patel-led DC failed to make it to the playoffs and finished sixth on the points table with seven wins and as many losses. The last time DC qualified for playoffs was in 2021. They have managed to reach just one final in 2020 under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership before letting him go.
