Retired from international cricket, South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Lizelle Lee smashed records on November 10 at Sydney Cricket Ground as she scored Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) history's first 150. Lizelle smashed 12 sixes and as many fours in her unbeaten 75-ball 150 for Hobart Hurricanes against Perth Scorchers.
The 32-year-old broke Grace Harris' record she created last year against Scorchers. The Brisbane Heat batter scored an unbeaten 136 from 59 balls agianst Scorchers.
Lee's stormy knock
Earlier, Perth Scorchers skipper Sophie Devine won the toss and opted to bowl first. Chloe Ainsworth struck twice to dismiss Danielle Wyatt-Hodge and Nicola Carey in the third over. Lee wasn't affected by the fall of wickets and hit Ebony Hoskin for a couple of sixes. In the seventh over, she reached her half-century from 29 balls.
Lee continued to clear the boundary with ease. On the first ball of the 14th over, she reached her century in style with a maximum over long-on. In the same over Elyse Villani departed. Heather Graham played second fiddle to Lee who tormented Perth Scorchers bowlers. In the final over, she got the strike with three balls remaining. She hit two sixes followed by a single to complete 150 runs. Her knock helped Hobart Hurricanes post 203/3 on the board.
No fightback from Scorchers
In reply, Perth Scorchers could not put up a fight. Molly Strano dismissed skipper Devine for a golden duck. Then Chloe Piparo got run out for a two-ball duck. In her second over, Strano dismissed Dayalan Hemalatha. Beth Mooney tried to play the anchor role but wickets kept falling. In the 11th over, she departed for a 21-ball 30. Ainsworth showed some ressistance with her 27-ball 41 featuring four fours and a couple of sixes. Heather struck thrice whereas Lauren Smith bagged two wickets as Perth Scorchers were bowled out for 131 with three balls remaining in the innings. Hobart Hurricanes registered a massive 72-run win.
Big leap for Hurricanes
The win helped Hobart Hurricanes climb up the points table and take the second spot below Sydney Thunder. They have a net run rate (NRR) of +0.432, better than Melbourne Renegades, Brisbane Heat, Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers who have three wins as well.
