The chief selector of the men's senior cricket team, Ajit Agarkar's future will be decided in a crucial meeting with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
A top source told Sports Tak that the senior officials want to meet Agarkar and discuss his future.
As per the source, there are people within the BCCI as well as the Indian team who want Agarkar to continue in the role. However, the final call is expected to depend on the outcome of the meeting.

BCCI wants Agarkar to continue?
The source further revealed that BCCI is happy to offer Agarkar an extension. But, Agarkar will also have to decide whether he wishes to continue as head of selection committee. However, Agarkar will take the call whether he wishes to continue in the role he took up three years ago.
Agarkar’s tenure has come under scrutiny in recent weeks, with reports suggesting that the BCCI is reassessing his position ahead of the expiry of his current extension in September. The board is also expected to discuss a possible one-year extension for the former India cricketer which will last till the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa.

The handling of Rohit Sharma’s ODI future has also reportedly been a point of difference between sections of the BCCI and the selection committee, adding to the uncertainty around the former fast-bowling all-rounder’s position.

Since Agarkar has taken over as chief selector, India have reached the ODI World Cup 2023 final where they were beaten by Australia. India won two consecutive T20 World Cup titles and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in UAE.
But, it is in the Test format that he has faced widespread scrutiny following Test series whitewash at home against New Zealand and South Africa. An underwhelming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 meant India were out of World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final.
After a 1-0 win on Sri Lanka tour including a draw in Colombo, the Shubman Gill-led India faces an uphill task to qualify for the WTC 2025-27 final.
